Harvey Healthcare admissions

Admission criteria
Before any resident comes to live in our Nursing Home they are assessed by our staff to ensure that our facility is suitable for their care needs, which may also, where necessary, be subject to us being able to secure relevant external medical support.

We provide 24 hour nursing care for both female and male residents with the following care needs: Care of the elderly and generiatric care, which includes residents with dementia and residents who require Palliative Care, Respite and Convalescent Care. We are permitted by the regulator to accept residents over 18 years old but the majority of our residents are over 65.

Nursing Home viewing and meeting

Upon receipt of an enquiry, we invite potential new residents and their families to visit the Nursing home for a meeting and a viewing. This is conducted by the Director of Nursing and will give potential new residents and their families an opportunity to understand how care is planned and managed.

Pre-admission assessment

The Director of Nursing conducts a pre-admission assessment when a resident and their family confirms interest in living in the nursing home. The pre-admission assessment may be conducted in a hospital, another nursing home or in a person’s private home or where ever the person is currently residing. On occasions, it may be possible or advisable for the person to come to the Harvey Healthcare nursing home for the assessment. The assessment is carried out with the permission and where possible the co-operation of the person and/or their family.

We request information about:

  • Social circumstances
  • Medical history
  • Medication
  • Current treatments
  • Ongoing support provided by medical or other professions.

Contract of Care

A “Contract of Care” will then be agreed with the new Resident and their family.  An admission date will then be agreed.

On admission, a signed Contract of care is required under the current regulations. The Contract of Care for Harvey Healthcare is a standard contract as recommended by Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) and a contract will be given to you to review when assessed.

Other Charges

There is an additional service charge (ASC) to cover the activities program not covered under the Fair Deal Contract. This is an essential part of the care given to all residents of Harvey Healthcare. The activities program includes a number of group activities as well as individual activities tailored to the needs of each resident. The weekly charge is included in the contract of care and range from €25-40 per week.

The only other charges relate to direct expenses such hairdressing, individual newspapers, specialist equipment etc, or if an escort is required to accompany you for planned medical appointments. These are included in the contract of care. This will be discussed with you by our Admissions manager or Director of Nursing and is clearly included in the contract of care.
